Before You Arrive
What to bring to your first appointment
To make your first visit as efficient as possible, please bring the following:
- Government-issued photo ID — for patient registration
- Insurance card or benefit information — including your policy number and carrier so we can verify coverage and direct bill on your behalf
- CDCP information — if you're enrolled in the Canadian Dental Care Plan, bring your confirmation details
- List of current medications — including prescriptions, supplements, and any known allergies
- Previous dental records or X-rays — if available, these help us avoid duplicating diagnostic imaging
- Referral letter — if you were referred to us by another dental provider
- A list of questions or concerns — writing down anything specific ensures nothing gets forgotten during the appointment
What To Expect
Your first visit, step by step
Arrival & check-in
Our front desk team welcomes you, confirms your information, and ensures your insurance details are on file. Arrive a few minutes early for your first visit to allow time for this.
Health history review
Dr. Khan or a member of our team reviews your completed health history form, asks about medications or medical conditions, and discusses any dental concerns you have.
Comprehensive examination
A thorough oral exam — teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissues — with digital X-rays taken as clinically appropriate. For new patients, this forms the baseline for your ongoing care.
Professional cleaning
If your appointment includes a hygiene visit with May So, RDH, a cleaning, gum assessment, and oral hygiene coaching are completed at the same appointment.
Treatment discussion
Dr. Khan reviews his findings clearly, explains any areas of concern, and discusses treatment options — with costs outlined before any commitment. There's never pressure to proceed immediately.
Next steps
Whether that's scheduling treatment, booking your next hygiene recall, or simply leaving knowing your teeth are healthy — you'll leave with a clear picture of your oral health and a plan going forward.

Insurance & Payment
Insurance & payment
Aurora Borealis Dentistry works with most major dental insurance plans and offers direct billing (assignment of benefits) to participating insurers — so in most cases you pay only your portion on the day of your appointment rather than paying in full and waiting for reimbursement.
We're pleased to accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) for eligible patients. If you're enrolled and unsure what's covered, our administrative team can help you understand your benefits before treatment begins.
